CSS-Tricks: HTML & CSS – The VERY Basics (vid)

Yes, code is art.

I hadn’t put up much of anything in terms of coding even though it too is an art form, so to make amends I am posting a video from CSS-Tricks.Com, a resource I frequent when I need some code inspiration for projects. This is the life’s blood of the visual web, all data is initially accessed from documented written & controlled by HTML & CSS, while this will be fairly familiar to the myspace generation, the video being referred to in this post is a must see even for the intermediate profile editor.

This video covers the basics of HTML & Cascading Style Sheets as it states in the description and I recommend all beginners start out in the manner the video suggests (using a basic text editor), it’s how I got started.I’ll be on the look out for tutorials and videos that take you a bit further into coding and some of the cool things you can do.

Be warned, once you get into coding, it becomes difficult to back away you may even find yourself dreaming in code!

If any of you beginners would like to share your work with the class post your results in the comments.

This video is the VERY basics of what HTML and CSS is, for the absolute beginner. HTML and CSS files are, quite literally, just text files. You don’t need any special software to create them, although a nice code editor is helpful. You can create these files on any computer and use your web browser to preview them during development. You can think of HTML as the content of your website: a bunch of text and references to images wrapped in tags. CSS is the design of your website. It targets the tags you wrote in your HTML and applies the style. Keeping these two things separate is key to quality web design.
